Pet First Aid

Do you know how to administer first aid to your pet?

Can you perform first aid if I get hurt?

All good pet owners love their pets and want them to be safe. But what if your elderly pet falls down stairs or eats a common household poison like chocolate or a harsh cleaning product? Your pets' life could be in danger if you don't know how to perform first aid, or if you don't know the correct steps to take in an emergency. You need to educate yourself on how to care for your pets in dangerous circumstances and emergencies.

As a responsible and informed pet owner, you need to be able to quickly decide on a course of action: Find out whether the problem is serious and make sure you don't ignore injuries that need medical attention. Ask your veterinarian about any pet CPR and first-aid courses available in your area. Even if you live close to your vet's office, first-aid is still important. What about after-hours emergencies and injuries requiring immediate attention.

Write down your vet's phone number (along with your doctor's number, family members to notify, etc.) and keep it near your telephone or on your cell phone's address book. Other numbers to keep handy include poison control, and any hotlines for your pet's medications.

Keeping your pet safe isn't hard, but it requires initiative and knowledge. Ensure your pet's happiness by looking into pet first-aid courses right away.
